Following the devastating tsunami in late 2004 that struck Banda Aceh, Indonesia, and affected the northern states of Malaysia, killing hundreds of thousands of people, all Southeast Asian countries have implemented tsunami early warning systems. These measures serve as a precautionary step to mitigate the impact of potential future tsunamis.

Ten years later, the system showed wear and tear, and maintenance cost taxpayers millions each year. After reading about the vandalism of warning buoys by pirates and accidental damage by ships, my friend and I suggested using locally made components to develop a new warning system. The government meteorology department welcomed public input for service improvement. Although the initial investment would be significant, it is expected to be cost-effective in the long run.

Several days after submitting my suggestion, I received a response inviting me to tour their facilities as an expression of gratitude.
